Uniqueness of Ijen Crater

One of the unique things about the Ijen Crater is that it has an acid crater with a depth of 200 meters and an area of around 5,446 hectares. It is called the Tamarind Crater, because the water content has a pH of 0.1, so this crater is known as the Tamarind Crater in the world.

The acid crater looks turquoise green with fairly calm water and is located in the middle of the largest caldera on Java Island. The water in the crater has a temperature reaching 200 degrees Celsius. This makes the crater’s water appear to emit a golden green sheen when exposed to sunlight.

Not only that, at night in the area around the crater there is a blue fire phenomenon. This phenomenon comes from sulfur gas coming out of the crater along with the release of larvae.

There are only two unique features in the world, namely Iceland and Ijen Crater. Unfortunately, this natural phenomenon does not happen every time. The beauty of blue fire can be enjoyed from July to September in the early morning hours from 02:00 to 04:00.

In addition, around the crater there are also various mountain plants with black tree trunks. When crossing it, visitors will feel the sensation of being in the black forest.

Furthermore, there are yellow and white edelweiss flowers which grow in certain months. The blooming of the edelweiss flowers can give the impression of exoticism to Mount Ijen.
